House History

Shortly after the Rhoynar conquest of Dorne, the bloody history of House Sekhmet began with the flight of a bastard. One of Lord Vohlkan’s indiscretions with his wife’s Rhoynish handmaiden produced an unfortunate fruit at an inopportune time. Vohlkan, however, began to get old as his two children grew. The throne was ready to pass to his rightful heir, but the bastard’s mother attempted to poison the lord, his wife, and their heir during a feast. This was discovered quickly, and the lord declared them put to death. However, the host of Rhoynish guards that migrated to House Osiron refused, and those still loyal to the handmaiden fled, taking the bastard with them.

After weeks in the desert, our brave founders located an oasis in the desert and - after making sure it wasn’t a mirage - established a small town on it. For years they barely eked by, a terrible decline from the previous wealth they enjoyed. Attacks continued on their pathetic village, but were repeatedly, if barely, beat back by their highly-trained soldiers.

Around 400 years later, House Sekhmet’s lake has become the home of a bustling marketplace, a staple of the long trade routes of the desert. This highly regulated market situated next to Sanctuary Lake is the source of Sekhmet’s wealth, bringing in traders and travelers alike. The house’s bitter rivalry with Osiron has smoldered a bit, and although there are no longer major attacks, Sekhmet’s courts are rife with spies. Osiron’s main bloodline has been damaged by the vile poison hundreds of years ago, and its rulers are born weak and frail, though they are getting stronger by the generation.

600 years since the house’s establishment, the effects of the poison have been significantly diluted and the feud between the two families has all but ended. One day, Jorun Osiron, Lord of the house, is visiting Lakeview Commons with his firstborn daughter. During his visit, he is cut down by an unknown assassin masquerading as a prostitute. His heir, Lady Aylia, uses this as an excuse to have her spies poison the entire noble family of Sekhmet in an attempt to take the city. The house’s major facilities are crippled as they scramble to save as many as they can, but more than half of the family is dead or bedridden. Sekhmet’s Master of Arms seizes the helm and leads his forces on Osiron’s keep, slaughtering Aylia and many of her men. They capture the royals and assume control with the Master of Arms as the de facto lord. Osiron is assimilated under Sekhmet’s banner, which leaves them with more men, but much more land.

Gone is the high regulation and crimeless state and the population is much more decentralized, but Lakeview Market is still making a brisk trade to this day as the focus of the town. Sekhmet’s rigorously trained military makes them a devastating force to be reckoned with, and traders have no fear of theft or danger inside its walls.

Lakeview Market is a waypoint for many travelers, especially those traveling out of Dorne. A major trade caravan has passed through the market, taking some of Sekhmet's denizens with it - including Kearen. Others joined him out of convenience, as traveling through the Mirage Pass can be incredibly dangerous without a group. Each person in this caravan has their own motivations for heading to King's Landing, and there is safety in numbers. Kearen's retainers were small in numbers only taking Vrodan Thrindor and a few more personal guards. Within King's Landing the party also remained in relatively close proximity staying in The White Dunes. Kearen and his party of guards took over a floor in one building, with the other members scattered about staying where they pleased but always within reach.
